INFable Socks is a company led by John Hendershot, who left his job in order to pursue his passion. He decided to create a business to bring people together and raise awareness on certain causes.
We had the chance to talk to designer Courtland Hendershot about the socks and the cause.
What is “INFable Socks” and where did the idea for the brand stem from?
What is INFable? in·ef·fa·ble
too great or extreme to be expressed or described in words.
It is easy to express personality and individuality with socks, so we naturally gravitated toward them.
What’s your creative process for the designs of the socks?
My process for designing socks is just like any other creative process that I go through: I first find designs that I like and create a mood board based off of those. Then I chose a colorway based off of a certain cause that the specific sock will go toward. After choosing my colors, I play with shapes and patterns, going through several different drafts until I come up with one that I like.
As a design major in college, how have you incorporated what you’ve learned to the designs you’ve created so far?
In college, I learn design skills such as sketching, composition, color theory, that help me with the design and computer programs like the Adobe Suite that help me render the mock ups and create branding for the company. I also learned to work with a timeline which has helped me create quickly in order to get a proper turn around.
Although you’re currently based in Michigan, do you see this brand expanding nationwide?
The great thing is since we are an E-commerce store instead of a brick and mortar – we are hoping that our brand is shared around the world.
We have already secured interest from Athletes, Models, Authors, Bloggers, Podcasters, Entrepreneurs, Actors and Actresses – and many more from throughout the world that are interested in modeling our socks. So, our vision is that people are captivated by supporting a cause.
What are your goals for the brand? Are there specific causes you have in mind for future designs?
Our goal is multifaceted. First, we want to create an environment where we create unity. There is so much divisiveness in the world – so much that separates people and we want to focus on bringing people together. And showing the best of humanity.
Secondly, we want to be successful so we send a lot of money to the causes we are advertising/supporting. We believe that one of the greatest opportunities in life comes from being generous. And it’s no surprise since we are located in one of the most giving cities in the country.
The next cause?
Wow, there are so many that are very close to our heart from Mental Illness, Heart Disease, Cancer and many more.
Picking a cause is the hardest part – because you want to help everyone. We are hoping that Not-for-profits will connect with us – so that they can be instrumental in the creative process as well as to what direction we will start in.
