MathMove’s Mad-Science Laboratory is a 10 class series of Lectures, Labs, and Panel Discussion with collaborators across many disciplines of Art & Science. The movement-based lab was created to discuss and experience Numbers, Space, & Time. We have adapted this lesson as family friendly event with a blend of basic and complex concepts to educate and entertain kids and adults. MathMove is a STEAM-based curriculum geared towards engaging audiences in mathematics through visual, mental, and physical movement explorations. Audience participation is welcome through activities, observations, and discussion spanning concepts ranging from basic arithmetic to Euclidean Space. MathMove Teachers play the role of teacher/performer/practitioner to guide the group through visual audible, tactile, and kinesthetic methods to connect intuitively with math science. The research began at Birmingham-Southern College where founder Leslie Ann Kilpatrick received honor’s for interdisciplinary research on The Physics of Ballet in 2009. Her interest in alternative ways to teach mathematics continued the following year while completing her senior thesis on Game Theory and Modular Arithmetic.
