Every since I started writing ChicpeaJC I’ve been so intrigued with street art and our local street artists. Sean Lugo was the first one I ever interviewed, he was the one that inspired me to seek out more like him. Since then we’ve kept in touch and I’ve become one of his biggest fans. Every time I see any of his wheat pastes I photograph them.
A few months ago Sean reached out asking if I would be a model for one of his wheat paste projects! It was such an honor. On a Sunday afternoon, while I was out strolling around JC with the family, I ran into Sean while he was assisting artist Mataruda on a mural for Savage Habbit. He pulled out his camera and the famous bear head and we did a quick photoshoot right on the spot.
I happened to be wearing a dress I got at Another Man’s Treasure, one of my favorite go-to dresses I wear when I don’t feel like thinking too much.
I wear this dress a lot.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago, Sean completed the sketches. We started brainstorming on where we would put the wheat paste up. I reached out to David Diaz at the Central Ave Special Improvement District to see if he had any leads.
Renato’s Pizza Masters and Bocelli’s Deli are great food spots on Central Ave and the owners agreed to let us put the wheat paste on their walls.
On the Sunday morning after the Street Fair, I went to meet Sean and David to put up the artwork.
It was so exciting being part of this piece from start to finish! It’s so awesome how a blogger, artist, business owner and a SID program can all come together to create something that will hopefully add color to someone’s day!
And here is a message from David!
#JCHeights thanks to #Artist @Sean9Lugo & @ChicpeaJC for making #CentralAve much more fun thru #wheatpaste #art. This is Sean’s first of several installations in the district. How sweet is this bear? Very. Take a selfie with it, post on Instagram, tag @Bocellisdeli, and get a free desert during your next visit at Bocelli’s NY Style Italian Deli. Limited time offer, one per person. Good things happen when artists, businesses, and bloggers come together.
