Between shutdowns and curfews, we saw our fair share of trends over the year. Let’s rewind and take a look at the trends we saw in 2020!

Tiger King

If you still haven’t watched Tiger King on Netflix, you’re missing out. There were memes, endless discussions, and even Halloween costumes inspired by Tiger King. Everyone was pretty invested right at the start of the at-home orders.

Dalgona (whipped) coffee

Did you try this whipped coffee recipe? After becoming a TikTok trend earlier this year, Dalgona Coffee became a hit as people tried making a whipped drink out of instant coffee, sugar, milk, and hot water.

TikTok dances

Are you one of the many people who got hooked on TikTok this year? With all this time at home and all the funny content, it’s no surprise. But with the comedy came countless of TikTok dances, many of which I’m sure you’ve tried to perfect. Doja Cat even hopped on board and included a TikTok dance in her music video for Say So. 

Bread baking

Another food trend so popular, it was nearly impossible to find flour and even active yeast for months. There’s a good chance you know someone who tried making bread at home this year.

Murder hornets

These hornets were only around for about a week before we never spoke of them again. That’s how bad 2020 was as a whole. Where did they even go?

At-home workouts

Yoga mats were sold out for most of the quarantine, and it’s unsurprising considering how popular at-home workouts have been this year. With gyms closed, many people started working out at home and buying equipment to maintain an active lifestyle.

Houseparty

Game nights went fully virtual this year, and Houseparty was the main app for the fun. You can video chat and play games all at once with several people at a time.

Netflix Party (now Teleparty)

Movie nights and binge-watching became a huge virtual activity this year. Whether it was with some friends or a date, Netflix Party allowed everyone to chat and watch their favorite movies simultaneously.

Puzzles

Over the past 10 months, I’ve seen more puzzles than I would have expected. All this time at home really brought out hobbies and activities that people seemed to have neglect over the years.

Fireworks

For weeks before Fourth of July and even in the weeks that followed, all you would hear is fireworks at night. What was everyone celebrating?

IG Live

Remember when everyone kept going live on Instagram just to talk about random things? There’d be 5 people on a time, people joining each other’s livestreams. It was constant.

Among Us

You’ve either played or you’ve heard of it, but Among Us became a big hit this year. Streams, costumes, and memes continue to come out of the game.
