As reported by NJ.com, Jersey City is expecting to bring gender-neutral bathrooms to City Hall. During their Wednesday meeting, City Council authorized a contract with Herbst-Musciano, LLC for non-binary, single-occupancy restrooms.

City Hall’s restrooms are currently gender-neutral, but the proposed single-occupancy restrooms provide more accessibility to the community.

The architecture firm plans to bring non-binary restrooms to the first, second, and third floors of City Hall. According to their proposal submitted on June 2, they will be renovating the current restrooms while paying special attention to the plumbing of the building to determine location of the restrooms, accessibility for all individuals, and the architectural design. Their current approach is to examine the already existing restrooms, though it is possible that new restrooms may be created, as well. The construction is expected to last no longer than 8 weeks and will cost $67,816.
