As of this morning, Jersey City has confirmed the first presumptive positive case of COVID-19.

Several people went through the testing process (7) over the last few weeks who felt symptoms, and all tested negative on initial tests. This is the first time an individual has tested positive on the initial tests, and the city is currently conducting follow-ups.

The city has been working hard implementing the appropriate safety measures and are aggressively putting in place the safeguards to protect residents with social distancing.

The individual is a 41-year-old female who lives in downtown Jersey City. She was proactive when she felt symptoms and initiated testing with her private physician. The results were then transmitted to the city’s Health Department Communicable Disease Reporting Surveillance System.

Our Health & Human Services officials are working aggressively, and we have been preparing for this.

The city will provide more information and support as it becomes available, but wanted to make sure people are aware to avoid rumors and misinformation from spreading.
