If you’ve taken a drive through 1&9 recently, you may have noticed a cute billboard with an uplifting message: “More Love = Less Hate. Humanity is the only way!”

We began to brainstorm about putting up a new billboard on Dec. 6th, we felt that we needed to put good energy out into the world. We didn’t have any ideas, all we knew is that it had to be a positive message. Then tragedy occurred on December 10th in Jersey City… the place where many of us in our Organization were born and raised, the place that we consider home, the city we love. Our city fell victim to a heart breaking act of violence and hate. This targeted attack claimed the lives of 4 innocent people. This took place in our city, that has always been a melting pot for so many different cultures from all around the world. All of us that grew up here, know that our city is rough, it wasn’t easy. There has always been violence, but this was something else… this wasn’t people struggling to survive and doing what they have to do just to get by, this was pure hate and evil that was on display. But we saw something else that day and the days that followed. We saw Police officers risk their lives to take down the bad guys, we saw a big part of the community come together and mourn the loss of life we all suffered, we saw messages of compassion and hope on social media, we saw Love. Love or Hate? There are only two options. We choose Love, we hope the majority of people who may come across this billboard will choose the same ❤️ ///// Big Thank You to @lrc_agency for making the vision a reality 🙏🏽 Thank you to the Jersey City Police Department for your bravery and courage, especially PO Raymond Sanchez who saved countless lives that day. Years ago, Julian Rodriguez put together a social club –Black Squad– that eventually grew into a community-oriented organization that actively works toward helping anyone in need.
Back in 2015, Black Squad put up a billboard by North Bergen with the message, “No matter what, never give up. Keep going! Don’t tear people down. Help build them up!” It was something Julian wanted to share with anyone who might be having a bad day or needs a sense of hope throughout the day. Now, a new billboard was put up by JRT’s Helping Hands/Black Squad with a similar message.
Following the December 10th shooting, JRT’s Helping Hands put together a billboard with the help of LR Creative Agency to promote love and to honor the four individuals killed that day as well as the officers on duty. It’s an overall great message and we’re happy to see local organizations spread love one positive message at a time!
